It’s the end of the year, so that means we’re taking a look back at some of the best of Peach Cars in 2022.
It has been a year of many great things, and we’re thrilled to have had the opportunity to serve the people we did and interact with our customers and their cars. As we move towards the end of the year, it’s the perfect opportunity to reflect on some of our favorite moments of the year.

The company has grown in the last two years into a one-stop shop for all things cars in Nairobi. While there are many car dealers and platforms for buying and selling locally used cars, none of them offers information transparency (to both buyers and sellers) like Peach Cars does. We believe that for buyers to get value for their money, they should know the true condition of the car they’re buying. And sellers should be kept in the loop throughout the process so they don’t feel shorthanded and cheated out of their cars. We believe in offering our customers an experience that goes beyond just selling or buying a car. It’s this experience that won over the hearts of our customers and enabled us to sell over 200 cars and help about 100 sellers find the next owner for their cars.

“Peach made it easy for me to buy a car without car knowledge”
Jacky: When the time came for me to buy a car, I was a bit hesitant because of all the horror stories I’ve heard about dealerships for locally used cars. It’s not even about those who were swindled out of their money, but those buyers who thought they were getting a good deal but instead ending up with a piece of junk they had to spend a fortune on repairs for. When you’re buying your first car, especially a used car, such stories make you nervous considering how big an investment cars are. It doesn’t matter whether you’re buying a 700k car or a 10 million car.
But Peach Cars held my hand and walked me through the journey. From the beginning to the very end. They walked me through the options available for my budget and car needs, gave me a comprehensive inspection report for the car I settled on, and allowed me an extended test drive to get a real feel of it. I made a purchasing decision with full knowledge of what I was paying for.

Peter: When I wanted to buy my second car, I decided to try Peach Cars for two reasons. One, the hype around it was building online, and I needed a different experience from the typical Nairobi brokers and middlemen. Go to any used (whether locally or foreign-used) car dealer in Kenya, tell them your budget, and see whether they won’t try to upsell you on a more pricey unit. Some even get rude and plainly tell you that they don’t sell cars within that range of price. You walk out of their offices feeling like you wasted their time, that it was a mistake walking into their offices in the first place.
Peach Cars offered me something different. They were not interested in closing a sale, but in understanding first what my car needed and what my budgetary limits were. Unlike other used car dealers, they listened to me more than they spoke.

“I almost went bankrupt fixing an accident-free car”

Maurice (Baraza Media Lab): I’ve bought about three cars and the experiences are crazy. The last one seemed like a good car from the outside but it turned out to have a damaged engine from a previous accident. It was almost a write-off and I only got to know this during an inspection at Peach (for a trade-in) after putting in a lot of effort and money into repairs. They won me over when they told me they couldn’t sell my car to other customers because the accident had affected its structural integrity and safety. While it annoyed me, it also showed me that I could trust them to sell me a good car.
When my spouse and I found a car we liked, the Peach process was smooth and seamless. We had our car within two days.

Prisca: As a woman, people try to undercut you when you’re selling your car because of the misconception that women don’t know anything about cars and therefore don’t maintain them well enough. Plus buyers assume you’re selling the car out of desperation. Before I was introduced to Peach, I got multiple offers that were way below the value of my car. One wasn’t even half the value of the car. I think selling through Peach was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. They got me a good price for my car.

Peach Car Care: Explore the country, not garages
In 2022, we also launched our Car Care department to help our customers to get the most out of their cars. Our care care services include basic car maintenance and in-depth repair services. There are a lot of other things that should worry you besides your car. You can have 99 problems but your car shouldn’t be one of them.
Our 225-point inspection system is intended to give our clients a 360-degree view of their car. This enables them to make informed maintenance decisions and prevent minor problems from becoming major performance and safety issues. We developed a Peach proprietary-built engine check device which, together with an off-the-shelf Onboard Diagnostics System (OBD), goes far in automating the inspection process and gives a comprehensive analysis of the car’s entire system- including engine, gearbox, suspensions, steering, electrical, HVAC, and cooling systems.
As we move into 2023, we’re looking to launch new hardware and software that will enable us to have a near-fully automated inspection center and revolutionize car care.
Getting bigger and better in 2023
We’re also excited about what else is coming from Peach in 2023. We will learn from when we fell short of our customers’ expectations and build on when we exceeded expectations so we can offer bigger and better experiences in the coming year. Tech innovation to improve the customer experience is just the beginning!
